Jesus taught, one cannot love God without simultaneously loving one's neighbor. And so our life together, at its foundation, emerges from this dual emphasis.

Sharing Table
The Sunday Sharing Table is the longest running Outreach ministry at Christ Church. It seeks to serve the homeless men and women of New York City by serving them a hot, nutritious meal in a warm, welcoming, loving environment. New volunteers will always be paired with more experienced volunteers. This ministry is a great opportunity to serve those with great need, as well as to share in serving with other Christ Church members. Contact Reverend Javier Viera at the church office for more information and to sign up.
Men's Shelter
The Men's Shelter is a ministry to homeless men seeking to transition into more stable housing and work situations. All guests are screened and brought to Christ Church by a partner agency that helps the men with employment, skills training, and social work services. New volunteers will always be partnered with experienced volunteers, and this is a great opportunity to serve the guests, as well as to share in serving with other Christ Church members. Please sign up at the Outreach Table if you're interested in serving, or contact the Rev. Javier Viera in the church office for more information.
Conversational English
Christ Church has long had a commitment to recent immigrants by helping to develop the English language comprehension skills necessary to thrive in the United States. Students come from all parts of the world, speaking a wide variety of languages. Classes are offered at Christ Church. Volunteers decide when they are available to offer instruction, and are paired with individuals or groups of students who can meet at that time. This is a wonderful opportunity to offer a much needed skill, free of charge, to eager students seeking to succeed in a new and foreign land. Volunteers also find this a rewarding experience because they have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and customs. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Reverend Javier Viera at the church office for more information.
Ghana Mission Teams
Since June 2001, Christ Church has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International to build houses for residents of Ho, Ghana. Over 100 members and friends of Christ Church have participated in this ministry. A partnership also exists between Christ Church and the Ho Methodist Church, a sister congregation with whom we worship and are developing deeper ties. Our latest team of 23 Christ Church members journeyed to Tepal Kumasi, from July 12 to 24 as part of our ongoing work with Habitat for Humanity, Ghana. They constructed homes, as well as supported and visited a school founded by Christ Church member Nana Fosu-Randall. Please contact the Reverend Javier Viera if you would like more information on Ghana missions and how you can be a part of our next team.
Hurricane Katrina Relief
Our ongoing work in the Gulf Coast region continues. In the coming year we will focus our efforts on the City of New Orleans; roll up your sleeves and help the Broadmoor community reclaim their home! Our next work trip is scheduled for March 2 to 8, 2008. For more information, or contact Jerolyn Morrison(jerolynmorrison@yahoo.com) or Javier Viera (javier@christchurchnyc.org).
Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church
Christ Church supports the work of the United Methodist Church throughout the world. The UMC provides ministry in orphanages, schools, universities, and hospitals around the world. The United Methodist Committee on Relief aids refugees and victims of war and natural disasters both here and abroad. If you are interested in supporting the global work of the United Methodist Church, please contact the Reverend Javier Viera for more information at 212.838.3036.
Saturday Kid's Program
The Saturday Kids' Program is a partnership between Christ Church and the New York City Mission Society. This program seeks to build relationships between volunteers and students from CES 28 in the South Bronx. Because this ministry seeks to build relationships, continuity is an important part of the volunteer experience. Volunteers tend to work with a consistent group of children throughout the academic year, so that mutual trust is established, thus making the experience more rewarding for both volunteers and students alike.
Help Support Outreach
Last year, Christ Church member Eliza Gatfield created an original drawing for the cover of the 2006 Auction program. This drawing has been reproduced into high-quality prints that are for sale at Coffee Hour. Each print is $25.00, and all proceeds benefit Christ Church Outreach projects. Get yours at the Outreach Table at Coffee Hour!
Information about these service activities can be obtained during the Coffee Hour following each Sunday's worship service.
