Music is at the heart of worship at Christ Church. Our church choir, comprised of professional and volunteer singers, is one of the most dynamic in the city. If you are interested in adding your voice to this fine musical ensemble, please contact our Director of Music, Steve Pilkington (stevep@christchurchnyc.org).
About the Choir
The choir leads congregants during the Sunday services through robust
arrangements of music celebrating our love for God and each other. The
traditional Sunday program is frequently supplemented with innovative musical works that reflect our diverse congregation. Listeners are often treated to hymns, psalms, or poems made more beautiful by original arrangements of music written by Mr. Pilkington and sung by the choir.
On other occasions, the vocalists are accompanied by instrumental performances including bell choirs, brass quartets, chamber music ensembles or percussion arrangements. The composers represented are kaleidoscopic, ranging from Britten to Bach to Bernstein, with an emphasis on the best contemporary American composers working in a liturgical vein.
Casavant Organ
The musical experience at Christ Church is so enjoyable that many members and visitors arrive early and remain late to treat themselves to works performed on the church's newly renovated 4-manual Casavant organ.
